The Blue Caves by Boat

The Blue Caves are a string of sea caves, arches and grottoes carved into the cliffs at the north-east tip of Zakynthos (Zante), near Cape Skinari and Agios Nikolaos in the Volimes area. Their name comes from the extraordinary blue glow the clear water takes on inside the arches as the light reflects off the white rock and the sandy seabed. With Sota Travel you reach them straight from Zakynthos Marina, on your own self-drive boat or with a private skipper.

WHAT YOU'LL SEE

Blue Grottoes, Arches & Crystal Water

Glide beneath the natural rock arches and into the caves where the sea turns an unreal shade of blue and silver. Drop anchor and swim or snorkel in some of the clearest, most brilliant water on the island, you can float straight through the arches. Nearby stands the lighthouse of Cape Skinari, marking the northern tip. The morning light is the best of the day, when the sun angles into the caves and the blue is at its most vivid.

ROUTE & DURATION

Getting to the Blue Caves from the Marina

The Blue Caves sit on the north coast, around 30–45 minutes by boat from Zakynthos Marina. Because they are so close to Navagio Shipwreck Beach, most guests combine the two in one trip, cruise the north coast, swim the caves and anchor at the wreck. No boat licence is required for our self-drive speedboats, and every trip starts with a short safety briefing so you can set off with confidence.
